Hands-on training

Epoxy flooring training

Two days on real concrete with a partner trainer who installs floors for a living, built on The Epoxy Playbook's recorded installation training so class time goes to the slab, not to slides.

How Epoxy Business School classes work

  • Two days on real slabs with a partner trainer, an installer who does this work every week.
  • The Epoxy Playbook comes first. The Epoxy Playbook is recorded installation training, with full installs you can replay, plus the business side. It's required before the class, so you arrive knowing every step.
  • A call before you book with someone who runs a coating company, to make sure the class fits your plans.
  • Opening state by state, starting where the most people are asking for a class.

Classes aren't scheduled yet. Tell us your state and we'll text you when one opens near you.

Class types

Epoxy floor coating training by system

Most classes are built around one or two floor systems. Pick the class that teaches the system you plan to sell first.

Full-broadcast flake

Garage floors: base coat, flake to refusal, clear top coat.

Metallic epoxy

Hand-worked pigment designs for showrooms and basements.

Quartz broadcast

Textured and slip-resistant, for kitchens and commercial floors.

Solid color

Workshops, basements and warehouse floors.

What to expect from any good class

What a complete epoxy flooring class covers

Use this list to judge any class, ours or anyone else's. If a class skips the first two blocks, it's teaching coatings, not floors.

Reading the slab

Moisture testing (calcium chloride or in-slab RH), old coatings and sealers, oil contamination, cracks, spalls and control joints.

Surface prep

Diamond grinding to the right profile, edge grinding, and dust control with a HEPA extractor.

Repairs

Crack and joint filling, spall repair and patching, and when a slab needs more than a coating can fix.

Base coats

Mix ratios, pot life and working time, spread rates, and the temperature and humidity limits on the data sheet.

Systems

Full-broadcast flake, solid color, metallic and quartz, start to finish, with your own hands on the squeegee.

Top coats and details

Polyaspartic and polyurethane top coats, recoat windows, slip resistance, cove base, steps and transitions.

And the part most classes skip: pricing per square foot and per job, quotes and scope of work, the sales call, warranty terms, crew pay and follow-up. The Epoxy Playbook teaches it alongside full recorded installs, and every Epoxy Business School class builds on it.

Price per day

What a day of hands-on training costs

Class prices only make sense per day on the slab. Here is the range for one seat at each length, from the providers above that publish both a length and a price.

LengthClassesPrice for one seatPrice per day
1 day7$99–299$99–299
2 days5$495–999$495 ÷ 2 = $247.50 to $999 ÷ 2 = $499.50
2.5 days1$900$900 ÷ 2.5 = $360
3 days3$950–1,500$950 ÷ 3 = $316.67 to $1,500 ÷ 3 = $500
4 days1$1,899$1,899 ÷ 4 = $474.75
5 days1$1,750$1,750 ÷ 5 = $350

Reading the numbers

  • Short classes are mostly supplier classes. 11 of the 12 one- and two-day classes with a published price are run by suppliers or manufacturers, which keep the price low because they also sell the product.
  • Longer courses cover more ground. Three- to five-day courses add concrete testing, repairs, cove base and more systems. The five-day course works out to $350 a day, against $247.50 to $499.50 a day for two-day classes.
  • Add the real costs. Travel, a hotel and the work you miss can cost as much as the seat. A local two-day class can beat a cheaper class a flight away.
  • Count your own hands on the floor. A day watching a demonstration isn't a day of training. Ask how many students share each slab.

Two kinds of class

Supplier class or independent school?

Of the 25 providers above, 15 are suppliers, 3 are manufacturers and 7 are independent schools or installers. Supplier and manufacturer classes are usually shorter and cheaper and teach their own product line; independent classes cost more and are built around the trainer's own method. Neither is better by default: what matters is how long you spend installing, and whether anyone teaches you to price and sell the job.

Supplier classes vs independent schools, compared

Before you book

How to choose an epoxy class

  • How many hours you'll spend on real slabs, versus watching demos.
  • Which systems you'll install yourself (flake, metallic, quartz) and which you'll only watch.
  • How many students per trainer.
  • Whether the class is tied to a product line. Discounts and store credit are common, and fine if you'd buy there anyway.
  • Whether pricing, quoting and selling are covered, and who teaches them.
  • What help you get after the class, when your first real job goes sideways.
  • The total cost per day, including travel and time off work.

Questions

Epoxy training: frequently asked questions

How much does epoxy flooring training cost in the US?

Hands-on epoxy classes in the US run from $99 for a one-day class to $1,899 for a four-day academy. Most two-day classes cost $495–999, and three- to five-day courses $1,350–1,899. Compare them per day: $495 for two days is $247.50 a day, and $1,750 for five days is $350 a day.

How long does it take to learn epoxy flooring?

Hands-on classes run one to five days. Most of the skill comes from your first jobs, so plan a few practice floors before you charge full price.

Is there an epoxy flooring certification?

No single license or certification is required to install epoxy floors nationwide. Manufacturers certify installers on their own products, often as part of a dealer program, industry bodies offer credentials for coatings and concrete repair, and some states require a contractor license for flooring work. Check with your state's contractor licensing board.

Do I need a contractor license to install epoxy floors?

It depends on the state, and sometimes on the size of the job. Check your state's contractor licensing board before you quote your first floor. Our license requirements by state page summarizes each state.

Can I learn epoxy flooring online?

You can learn every step online: The Epoxy Playbook records full installations start to finish, so you can watch, pause and replay each one. What a recording can’t give you is the feel of the grinder and the squeegee on real concrete, which is what the hands-on class is for.

When will Epoxy Business School classes start?

Classes open state by state. None is scheduled yet. Leave your state and number on the class waitlist and we'll text you when one opens near you.
