What you're looking at
The systems in these photos
Most floors here are one system in different colors and rooms. Knowing which system a customer is pointing at is the first step to quoting it.
Full-broadcast flake
A base coat, vinyl flake broadcast until no wet coating shows, then clear top coats. The garage standard, and common in basements, kitchens, shops and barns.
Solid color and high-gloss
Pigmented coats with no flake, finished glossy. Common in machine shops, warehouses, hangars and food production rooms, where a bright, easy-to-clean floor matters.
Polished concrete
The slab itself, ground and polished with diamond tooling, with no coating on top. It uses the same kind of machines as coating prep.
From the photo to the price
Every coated floor starts as a quote. What a customer pays depends on the system, the slab and the prep it needs, and what you charge has to carry your overhead and leave a profit.
Learn the work and the business
The Epoxy Playbook records full installations you can replay, with the pricing and selling around them. Hands-on training puts you on real slabs, and the library covers everything in between.
Questions
About these floors
What is a full-broadcast flake floor?
A coating system where vinyl flake is broadcast into a wet base coat until no wet coating shows through, then the loose flake is scraped off and the floor is sealed with clear top coats. It hides small slab blemishes, adds texture underfoot and is a common choice for garages. Flake floor installation, step by step walks through each coat.
What is the difference between a flake floor and a solid-color high-gloss floor?
A solid-color floor is pigmented coating with no flake in it, finished with a top coat. It reads clean and bright, which is why shops, warehouses and production rooms often use it, sometimes with safety striping in traffic lanes. Flake floors add texture and hide dirt and slab marks better, which suits garages and basements.
Is polished concrete a coating?
No. Polished concrete is the slab itself, ground with progressively finer diamond tooling and usually densified, with no coating film on top. It is done with the same kind of grinders used for coating prep, covered in diamond tooling for concrete grinding.
Where can I learn to install these floors?
The Epoxy Playbook is recorded hands-on installation training you can replay, plus the business side, and it is required before the hands-on class. The hands-on classes then put you on real slabs with a partner trainer.
